The Data

All reported data are publicly available from the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.

Click on a school and press the "Visit" button for details on test outcomes and demographics.

Find a School

Here are the steps:

  • Pick an address and a distance to create your own search area. Yep, you've done this already at start-up!
  • Choose a grade level. Stick with your current choice, or change things up!
  • Tap/click on a school or use the search bar.

School Rating

The Annual Performance Report (APR) consists of two parts under MSIP 6: the Performance score and the Continuous Improvement score. The Performance score is comprised of points awarded for concrete, quantifiable measures of educational achievement, growth, and career-readiness at various places along the K-12 spectrum.

School Ratings are determined by the school-level APR Performance Points Percentage Earned.

School Types

Charter Schools

These schools operate independently of local school districts but, unlike private schools, they charge no tuition fees.

Traditional Public Schools

These schools are operated by local school districts. Eligibility to enroll depends mostly on the school district the student resides.

Tip: Contact the school office directly to enquire about any seats available for applicants outside of the attendance boundary.

Performance in My Area

This scale color codes schools in your search area from lowest rating (red) to highest rating (green).

Shaded Map Area

A shaded area appears in the map if you are choosing a maximal travel time from your address to the schools you want to consider.

Given your chosen mode of transportation, travel time is estimated based on the most recent data on workday morning traffic. Since this estimate is not precise, schools slightly outside of this area are shown as well.

Note: If you are selecting schools based on distance from your address, no background area is drawn and only schools within this distance are shown. Distance is measured in a straight line.

Proficiency Rates

Students' outcomes in end-of-year tests are described by a numerical score. These scores can then be translated into grade-like performance levels to express whether students are on track to complete their secondary or post-secondary education.

Proficient & Advanced
Students at these levels understand and use the skills and knowledge needed to continue their secondary education and to progress to the post-secondary level.
Below Basic & Basic
Students at these levels are not yet on track to complete their education successfully and need additional support.

Growth Points

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has developed an accountability framework that considers not only a school's proficiency rates but also its performance relative to its demographic composition, known as a 'growth measure'.

Growth points are the percentage of accountability points a school has earned from among all possible growth points. You can find more details here and here.

Race/Ethnicity

Students or their guardians self-report an ethnic description which is then used in state and federal programs to monitor diversity and equity.

In Missouri, we use the following basic descriptive categories:

  • African American
  • American Indian
  • Asian/Hawaiian/Pacific Islander
  • Hispanic
  • Two or More Races
  • White

The “Non-White” category in the school profile is made up of all above categories, except for White.

Federal law requires this information to be suppressed when only a small number of students are involved for a school to protect their privacy.

Free or Reduced Lunch

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides eligible students with free or reduced-price lunch (FRPL). The percentage of students in a school who are eligible for FRPL can provide a substitute measure for the concentration of low-income students in the school.

Special Education

Students with disabilities have a legal right to receive specialized support (special education) to ensure their academic success.

Schools report the number of students receiving such services. This may happen within the school building or at dedicated centers shared by several schools.

English Language Learners

Students who speak a primary language other than English may receive dedicated instruction to help them succeed academically and to expand their language skills.

Suppressed and Missing Data

Federal law requires Departments of Education to redact sensitive data about groups of students or staff if they are too small to ensure that the anonymity of their members be protected.
